Kolles plans Intercontinental Cup entry

By Matt Beer Thursday, December 24th 2009, 10:18 GMT

Kolles Audi, Okayama 2009The Kolles team is to continue running its Audi LMP1 programme in 2010 and will contest the new Intercontinental Cup as well as staying in the Le Mans Series.

The squad, best known for its Formula 3 and DTM projects and for boss Colin Kolles’ involvement with the Force India Formula 1 team, made its sportscar debut with two Audi R10 TDIs this year, contesting the full LMS schedule, the Le Mans 24 Hours and the Asian Le Mans Series races at Okayama.

Participating in the Intercontinental Cup next season means that next year it will also race in the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta, a round of the American Le Mans Series.

Le Mans organiser the Automobile Club de l’Ouest has announced a rules break to allow the R10 to continue racing in its original form while the newer generation of diesel prototypes will need to be modified to fit the latest regulations.

The team believes that the rules situation and its growing sportscar experience will make it more competitive in 2010.

“Apart from the experience gained in the past season, surely the specification of the regulations made by the organiser Automobile Club de l’Ouest will have a hand in the competitiveness of the successful Audi LMP1,” said a Kolles statement.

The team also hopes to get a Le Mans 24 Hours entry again. It has not yet announced any of its 2010 drivers.

Kolles’ two cars took seventh and 10th in the LMS LMP1 standings this year, and its #14 car finished seventh at Le Mans with Charles Zwolsman Jr and Andre Lotterer. Its best result of the season was third in the first Okayama race with Oliver Jarvis and Christian Bakkerud.
